Why most reels die at the hook
The first 1.2 seconds decide everything. Algorithms don't reward beauty — they reward held attention. A reel that prints views always answers one question in frame one: why should I keep watching?
The 3-beat structure
- Hook — pattern interrupt, contrarian claim, visual disruption.
- Build — escalation. Add stakes every 3 seconds.
- Payoff — resolve the tension you set up. Then loop it.
Pacing is a weapon
Cut every time the meaning changes. If a sentence has three ideas, it deserves three cuts. We grade pacing the same way colorists grade highlights: by feel, then by waveform.
